This is an excellent early dessert apple, introduced in 1945 as a cross between Worcester Pearmain and Mackintosh Red.
It is in our opinion superior to its namesake, with larger fruit and a richer flavour. It is a very handsome apple with deep red skin and white, juicy flesh which develops a strawberry flavour.
Ready early September, it makes a spreading tree and produces good crops. Partial tip-bearer so unsuitable for training.
