New Veggies in this week?

Veggies this week

A clement forecast ahead for the 3 day bank holiday weekend, and favourable weather means a flurry of new season veggies pushing through.

We now have the first new potatoes, garden peas, &  main crop bunched carrots coming through (500g per bunch, rather than the baby carrots that are half this size), and we have enough courgettes now coming through to be able to trumpet them!

And this will also be the first week of New Season Kale. 20 years ago this would only been a matter for bovine celebrations, but now recognised as one of the most nutritionally dense greens around, well, the cows have to make do with grass, and the kale is kept for us....!

We also switch organic spinach this week, to a spring grown variety - it is less hardy than the perpetual winter spinach and is harvested with some roots attached to help it last longer.

And broad beans - we are now offering regular new season beans for shelling, and like last week, we are offering some "mange-tout" beans that are good for just steaming and enjoying whole.

Tiptree strawberries - from the 1st June, they will be in larger 400g punnets
