The price of milk is currently in the news - why?
Because the milk processing companies have announced that they are lowering the price of milk that they are going to pay to dairy farmers, to around 30p per litre, from 1st August.
For many dairy farmers this is a lower unit cost than the cost of producing it, and they are starting to protest (2,500 of them descended on Westminster last weekend).
At farm direct we firmly believe in a fair price and profit share for our dairy farmers, Geoff & Kim Bowles. We pay them approximately 86p per litre (more for full fat, less for skimmed milk, as the skimmed off cream can be used for butter & cream).
