Veg update this week: First Wild Garlic & Sweet Russian Kale

21 March 2018

We have the first of the Red Russian Kale in this week - it is always a late appearing Kale - softer and sweeter than most other Kale, it is lovely and is very versatile.

We have a Red Russian Kale and Lemon Risotto recipe bag, which puts it to good use.

We also have the first of the Wild Garlic in this week from
Burscome Cliff Organic Farm (Kent), a neighbour of Ripple Farm (who are allowed to pick the Wild Garlic in exchange for giving waste veggies as livestock feed - a happy bartering arrangment).

If you haven't tried wild garlic, well, you must - it is the taste of early spring - a long slim leaf, that you can add to salads or stir in to dishes at the last minute - intoxicatingly strong and garlicky - it really is a delight.

You can also whip it up into a quick and lovely Wild Garlic Pesto (Gavin at Purely Pesto will be producing this for us but not until next month) so for now, you have to make do with our recipe bag...!

Elsewhere - we have now switched from the indoor forced rhubarb to the outdoor grown rhubarb
it is cheaper than the forced rhubarb and will drop much further as it becomes more prevalent.

Outside of this, please note, we are now in the final week or two of apples and pears!
