Raw Borage Honeycombe Returns

03 September 2014

We are very happy to welcome back raw Honeycombe this week. Our beebeeper Graham cuts his honeycombe at this time of year, when the borage crop next to a couple of his hives is flowering.

The borage crop is insecticide and fungicide free, and it makes for a very runny honey, which makes it particularly suitable for turning into a little tub of honecombe (so you get a nice mix of the runny and the set).

It is quite a fiddle for Graham to do, cutting up the honeycombe. Usuually he just spins the honey out of the honecombes and the returns the empty combs in their frames back to the hives for the bees to re-fill. He therefore restricts the amount of honeycombe he cuts up each year, to make life easier for his bees!

Well worth a try, this mild, delicate honey "straight from the hive".
