What is White Pudding?

15 February 2011
Recent introduction of White Pudding from Old Hill Farm has been met with a few puzzled expressions. It seems that this oaty treat, popular in Scotland, Ireland and the South West is relatively alien to our Islington base. So what exactly is it?

Unsurprisingly enough, White Pudding (or Hog's pudding) is very similar to
Black Pudding, but seemingly lacks that bloody trait. Consequently, it consists of pork meat and fat, suet, bread and oatmeal.
Apparently it is an essential part of a traditional Irish breakfast, while in Scotland it can be found deep fried (where else?) as an alternative to fish.
Heeding the advice of Jamie Oliver, I had it with my Sunday Roast last week and it was "pukka" (adj. first-class, superior).
