Flanders Wheat

Description:


A rare heritage wheat revived by British growers, Flanders has a golden colour and mild, nutty flavour. It’s softer and slightly sweeter than modern wheats, making it a great introduction to heritage grains.

Best for:

  • Warm grain salads

  • Baking or milling for rustic loaves

  • Side dishes or pilafs

Character: Gentle, balanced, and very versatile 


🌾 2. Black Wheat

Description:
A striking, naturally dark variety of wheat with a deep purple-bronze colour and rich, earthy flavour. High in antioxidants (anthocyanins), it brings both nutrition and drama to a dish.

Best for:

  • Salads and grain bowls (adds colour contrast)

  • Stuffed peppers, pilafs, or mixed grain blends

  • Milling for darker, nutrient-dense breads

Character: Bold and distinctive


🌾 3. Emmer (Farro)

Description:
One of the earliest domesticated grains, Emmer has a firm texture and nutty, slightly sweet taste. It’s an ancient relative of modern wheat and holds its shape beautifully after cooking.

Best for:

  • Hearty salads, soups, and stews

  • Risottos or “farrotto” dishes

  • Mixing with roasted vegetables or mushrooms

Character: Rustic and wholesome —
