We have the first of the comice pears in this week - you will not find a chunkier pear grown in Britain! They are primarily an eating pear, but their size means that they are lovely slow poached, and served with melted chocolate for example.
And after much haggling and coaxing, I have managed to persuade Simon at Jacobs Farm to pick some Wild sloes for us on Friday morning, whilst he is out walking his dog.
Sloes have a narrow range of uses, the principal one being that you can make Sloe Gin out of them - a lovely festive treat. We are right on time to be able to do this (the gin and sloes typically need around 8 weeks soaking to produce an lovely yuletide tipple) - and of course it would make a lovley present to give to someone.
And finally, if you need some spice in your life (we all do), then we have a late blossoming crop of hot wax chillies in from Martin at Ripple Farm.
