Multiple Apple Varieties, including Crab Apples!

09 September 2015

We have the first John Downie Crab Apples in this week, which we bring in each week from The Trollope Family's Orchard up in the wonderfully named and equally picturesque village of Fingringhoe. (Before too long they wil bring us Quince & Medlars too....)

Crab apples, tiny apples, are too sour to eat raw, but make delicious jelly, which complements roasted meats and game really well, and are a classic autumnal treat.

And we have made it easy for you with our crab apple recipe kit (recipe card, fruit, sugar & lemon) - you provide the jars (any leftover ones wil do) - and which will equip you with the means to turn out 10 jars of delicious cranberry jelly, and a beaming grin of self-satifaction....! They make great gifts at Christmas.

We are getting into main apple season now - if you like your apples green and sharp, then the first James Grieve are in, an old fashionned type of apple. And we also have Laxton Fortunes, Katy & Tydeman Worcester Varieties.

Our Autumn Fruit Boxes, will give you a good variety of the different types available.
