Pulling Carrots from muddy fields - this weeks news....

13 January 2016

We were crossing our fingers and toes last night that we wouldn't get anymore rain - the soil is already very wet, and any more would have made picking carrots extremely difficult - but thankfully it was dry and our grower Paul at Walmestone Growers is now washing them down before they come into us tomorrow - phew!

Beyond this, the green availability might well start to tighten up, if the weather turns frosty, which it is threatening to do - so enjoy them whilst they last - there should not be too much of a problem this week, but winter might eventually arrive!

January is always a fun month for food - it is the last month of game and so we have some great offers on partridge, mallard and pheasant (see below). We have the first of the Yorkshire forced rhubarb in this week, which will brighten up any kitchen (or crumble) - and our crumble bundle comes with a secret ingredient too...!

Finally, Burns night is approaching and so Haggis are up again, ours come from Findlays of Portobello, Edinburgh. They are always very popular! Details below....
