Big Freeze On Our Farms

13 December 2012
It's the first big freeze of the winter and we've got a bit of a veggieshortage!

Martin's chard and spinach are frozen solid, while much of our root vegis firmly stuck in the ground.

Fortunately, our kales, cabbagesand sproutsare perfectly adept to the frost and with one eye on the forecast we dug upplenty of veggies earlier in the week.

We've got other winter veggies trickling through too - the first of Martin's Brussels sprouts(so sweet after the frost) are ready to pick, as are mustard leavesfrom Perry Court Farm (they survive the cold due to the natural anit-freezethat gives them that peppery taste).

Christmas is now just over a week away and our festive birds have been reallypopular this year. We've got both organic and free range geese, turkeys and chickensavailable. Our basic rule of thumb is same price as Waitrose, better qualityand provenance - order nowand support you local producers.
