Manna cakes in Holloway are providing us with some wonderful quince jelly this week, made with English quinces, you don’t get more local than this and we are very excited to be offering it here!
Quince jelly is a sweet, thick, sliceable preserve. Historically marmalade was made from quinces, and the English word "marmalade"comes from the Portuguese word marmelada, meaning "quince preparation".
But nowadays quinces appear to receive a lot less attention than your typical jam. Its exquisite scent and delicately grainy texture, makes the most majestic preserve of them all. Perfect with a nice wedge of cheese! Alternatively, a little roughly chopped quince cheese adds a delicious fruity note to lamb stews or tagines – or try combining it with chopped apple for a pie or crumble.
