Veg update this week: Chives, Rocket & Overwintered greens

18 April 2018

The pick up in temperatures is hugely welcome on two levels - 1, it is allowing growers such as Walmestone to get planting, and 2, it has hastened the arrival of overwintered crops, such as organic spinach, endive lettuce, and mixed organic kale. (See next news item for an explanation of what overwintered crops are).

Beyond this, our range shifts over the coming weeks from the "rooty" to the "leafy" - and this will be reflected in our boxes and range of availability.

Talking leafy, we have Sorrel, Lovage, & Rocket all new in this week - they are all sharper tasting leaves that mix really well with a flat green lettuce. We also have an overwintered crop of Endive Lettuce.

And we have the first of the new season aliums in this week - ie Spring Onions. This general surge in salad-style products means we now have two Spring Salad boxes (small & medium).

Plus we have now an expanding range of herbs (including chives from this week) - both cut & potted.

Away from Salad, our kales are changing now - we have Red Russian, MIxed Spring Bags and some softer leaved "Hungry Gap" Kale.
