Meet the Alliums: Wet Garlic & Spring Onions begin

13 May 2015

A lovely few days of weather, with both rain and shine means we have the new season aliums (Garlic / Leeks & Onions) kicking on this week. We have spring onions in for the first time from Laleham Farm in Middlesex as well as their new season spinach, and the Organic new season garlic is coming from Ripple Farm.

Important to say that this Garlic is sold as stem and bulb: at this early stage in the season it is quite a lot of stem and not much bulb, but dont let that put you off, because you can slice up and cook the stem, treating the bulb and stem as one. What it lacks in potent garlic-iness, it makes up for in spring-freshness!

Also you will see a difference in the watercress this week, as they are now moving onto the new season summer beds down in Chalke Valley. The leaves will be smaller, lighter, more delicate as in recent weeks the overwintered crops have been big, dark, and pretty chewy at times...!
