And this week sees the start of an eccentric seasonal treat which lasts just a few weeks: fresh elderflower!
It is always a slight faff for our otherwise busy growers to have to go and pick some baskets of this most fragrant wild plant for us. This year Simon at Jacobs Farm has offered to do it, and we are always hugely grateful.
Whether you are making cordial with it, or elderflower champagne, or (my favourite) making fritters with the sprigs and flowers (a la local resi Nigel Slater), its fresh summery smells, and pretty flowers are well worth enjoying!
On an equally pretty note, we have the first Heritage / Rainbow carrots in this week as well as the first aubergines, and also our organic chard (green and rainbow) returns, as Martin at Ripple Farm starts to turn the corner out of the hungry gap.
